In 2021, she received the Distinguished Career Award from the American Sociological Association’s section on Peace, War, and Social Conflict.

Nepstad has served in various capacities within UNM’s College of Arts and Sciences. From 2009-2012, she was the Director of Religious Studies. She served as the Chair of Sociology and Criminology from 2012-2014 and again from 2016-2021. Nepstad looks forward to working with departments within the College of Arts & Sciences to promote strong undergraduate and graduate initiatives that will enhance student success from admission through degree completion.
