Born in Los Angeles, California, Leanne Yanabu was raised in Hilo, Hawaii. She graduated from Haverford College with a Philosophy major, and received a Masters of Fine Arts in Photography from Southern Illinois University. She also served in the Peace Corps, in Mali, from 1991-1993.  She has been at UNM since 1997.
