Krista Navarrette

Senior Academic Advisor

Hello Lobos and welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences! My name is Krista Navarrette, my pronouns are she, her, hers but also go by they, them, theirs. I am excited to be your academic tour guide during your journey here at UNM. My favorite thing about advising is watching my students grow and achieve their goals. On a personal note, I am a first generation student and proud of it! I am a strong believer in personal wellness (aka keeping my sanity) and use my spare time to exercise/enjoy life. I like hiking, running, yoga, food, and now strength training.

A little background information about my education, I graduated from the University of New Mexico (UNM) with my B.A. in Media Arts and a minor in World Dance. After graduation I was accepted to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) where I obtained my M.A. in Educational Administration with an emphasis in Student Affairs. My thesis research focused on Validation Theory to explore Latino’s experiences in higher education and how these men found success throughout their journey. I was also able to co-present on the following topics during my graduate program and professional career: “The Impact of Short-Term Study Abroad”, “Multiracial Programming” and, “Listening to the Voices of First Generation Students”. I have participated in the following trainings: SAFE ZONE (certified through the LGBTQ Resource Center at UNM and UNL), GREEN ZONE (certified through the Veteran Resource Center), D.R.E.A.M ZONE (certified through NM Dream Team). I have also participated in UNL Veterans Take Force, Social Justice Retreat, and worked on UNL’s Diversity Plan. #YouAreWelcomeHere
